Coast Guard rescues 4 from sinking boat near Freeport

Four boaters were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard this morning after their vessel capsized near Freeport.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Houston-Galveston received a call from the owner of the 24-foot boat, reporting that he was 10 miles off shore and taking on water.

A crews in a response boat and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter were dispatched to the distressed boat.

Crews arrived at the scene and safely transferred four boaters off of the sinking vessel.

Coast Guard says the boat’s owner will coordinate salvage.
