Road work to blame for wait at Kolda Elementary

CORPUS CHRISTI, Tx — It's the first day of school for kids at Kolda Elementary and parents were in for a major back-to-school headache.

That's because of construction on Rodd Field Road between Slough Road and Brooke.

A four-way stop was installed last week in order for the road improvement project to continue.

Parents say a lack of guidance on the new traffic pattern and very little parking were to blame for the congestion.

“Any new additional areas to park or creating a standard for people to access the school you know from a larger parking area would definitely be helpful. Just creating structure. It seems like everyone is just trying to do what they can to

get access to the school.” said parent Anthony Avila.

Some parents opted to park in a nearby gas station or cross the street where there weren't crossing guards. Other parents waited upwards of an hour to drop their kids off for the first day.
