CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — With the school year about to start, KRIS 6 is again partnering with H-E-B and the United Way of the Coastal Bend to make sure students have what they need.
And Operation Supply Our Students gives you at home the opportunity to help thousands of kids in need.
We're hoping the community comes out big this year.
Operation SOS is a community-wide donation and supply drive.
With the start of school right around the corner, thousands of area children will go without the school supplies they need unless help is offered.
Operation SOS is in its 29th year and ways to help are easy.
When shopping at your local H-E-B, look for the KRIS 6 tear pads that offer different amounts to donate and it will simply be added to your grocery bill.
You can also purchase pre-stuffed bags that comes with everything a student will need.
Or you can donate through cash, check or card and 100 percent of all monies donated will go to purchase supplies.
We stopped by the H-E-B on Saratoga Boulevard to see how things were going.
“Today at this store we're doing 750 bags, but at the four stores that we're in we're doing about 1,900 bags,” said Libby Averyt of the United Way of the Coastal Bend. “On top of that with all the financial contributions we've received we'll be buying school supplies wholesale and 100 percent of the donations go towards the school supplies.”
Operation SOS has more than 67,000 children signed up for the program throughout 60 Coastal Bend communities to receive help.
So, the need is there and that’s why KRIS 6 is partnering to give students the tools they need to succeed.
You've got plenty of time to help out.
Donations are being accepted from now through Aug. 13 at H-E-B stores across the Coastal Bend.
