A man thought to be one of the leaders of the infamous Gambino crime family was found shot to death outside his home Wednesday night.
Police responded to a call on Staten Island of an assault in progress.
When they arrived on the scene they found 53-year-old Francesco Cali dead of multiple gunshot wounds to the torso.

A law enforcement official briefed on the case said Cali was believed to be one of the ranking members of the Gambino crime family.
He was reportedly having dinner with his family and stepped outside to speak with someone when the incident occurred.
NYPD says a suspect fled the scene in a blue pickup truck.
