CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — People across the country are honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. today.

Here in the Coastal Bend, the observances started with the 14th annual YWCA Racial Justice Forum.

Staff members, panelists and members of the community all gathered this morning to discuss ways to carry King’s legacy.

“We want to have a more peaceful world, as Martin Luther King dreamed and preached and led,” said Nancy Wesson-Dodd, president/CEO of YWCA Corpus Christi. “So this is our way of bringing people together to go forward unified, as opposed to going forward at odds with one another.”

Moving forward, the group says it's looking for ways to ensure peace, justice, freedom and dignity for everyone in the community.
