Jon West narrowly defeated James O. Gardner in the Republican primary race for District Attorney for the 105th Judicial District, which -- Nueces County.
West leads, having earned 50.49 percent of the vote, with all precincts reporting late Tuesday night.
The race was close enough that Gardner could request a recount, if he chooses.
West faces incumbent Nueces Co. District Attorney Mark A. Gonzalez, who ran unopposed in the Democratic primary, in the general election in November.
The Texas A&M grad currently is a Border patrol prosecutor for Brooks and Jim Wells counties, and has 20 years of felony prosecutorial experience.
Gardner is an assistant county attorney in San Patricio Co., and previously had run for Nueces County D.A. in 2016.
