CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Stephanie Street, soon-to-be Mrs. Esparza, was supposed to get married next weekend but postponed her wedding to September because of the pandemic.
"I think reality hit probably two weeks ago and that’s when the water works kind of came." she said.
On Tuesday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced an amendment to his executive order that will allow weddings and other events to resume.
Some of those guidelines include:
- Wedding ceremonies held at an indoor venue, other than a church, will be allowed 25% occupancy.
- Facilities hosting wedding receptions must limit their occupancy to 25% of the total listed occupancy. These occupancy limits do not apply to the outdoor areas of a wedding reception or to outdoor wedding receptions.
- Ceremonies must follow the same rules as church services. Every other row must be blocked off and only members of the same household should sit together.
Stephanie's wedding will be at The Bay Jewel in downtown Corpus Christi -- one of the many venues now adjusting to the new guidelines.
“It still limits us a lot because we can only do 25% capacity and we have to space things out from the original plan but it does give us some options for our couples." Laura Sandoval said.
Others in the wedding industry, like Leana Yates the owner of La De Da Events, were excited to hear Abbott's announcement.
“We can do something on a smaller scale and still bring joy and happiness to our brides." she said. "Before we were in limbo and at least we have a little clarification that we can do some things.“
