CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — For the Thanksgiving holiday, families from all over the Coastal Bend have the chance to have their meal provided for free.

“There’s an element of giving back to the community,” said volunteer Ajit David, a volunteer with the Vishal Raju Bhagat Foundation since 2006.

Davod says he is honored to be connected with the foundation because his volunteer efforts will help guide those who are in need and seek a better Coastal Bend as a whole.

“If we can just give a meal - a Thanksgiving meal - to some of the members, residents of the community who are not as fortunate, that would be the best way to make a direct impact,” said David.

For the non-profit, this will be the first time they are hosting a drive-through Thanksgiving giveaway.

Daryl Genzer, director and treasurer with the Raju Bhagat Foundation, says 500 meals will be handed out near the Holiday Inn by the Bayfront at noon on Thanksgiving. Genzer says the foundation is dedicated to assisting many folks from the older to the young in different areas.

“One of the critical things our foundation does is to provide support to those who need it, in particular kids with juvenile diabetes,” he said.

The continuing pandemic has affected many families across the Coastal Bend. Genzer says that Thanksgiving should be special for everyone.

“We’re all in this together, I think that’s the message it’s difficult, it’s difficult, it’s difficult for everyone, and as a non-profit foundation and having the success we have, we're every blessed to give back,” said Genzer.

The foundation says it will continue to raise awareness and seek resources for juvenile diabetes.
