CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Two women are dead and two others in their car were injured in a two-car accident Sunday afternoon in Live Oak County at the intersection of U.S. Highway 59 and FM 624 about 15 miles southwest of George West.

Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Nathan Brandley said a small vehicle was traveling westbound on 624 when it ran a stop at the intersection of U.S. 59.

That car was then struck by an 18-wheeler that was traveling south on Highway 59, rolling over several times.

Brandley said the two women were ejected from their vehicle and died at the scene. The other passengers in the car were taken to Spohn Shoreline Hospital in Corpus Christi for treatment of their injuries. Their condition is not known at the current time.

The force of the accident caused the 18-wheeler to strike a parked pickup truck occupied by another person near the original accident, Brandley said. Neither the driver of the 18-wheeler or the pickup truck were injured in the accident.

The investigation of the accident is continuing.
