CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A Nueces County grand jury has indicted three Nueces County jailers.

The grand jury indicted 40-year-old William Fielder, 22-year-old Javier Zapata, Jr. and 33-year-old Richard Culp on Oct. 17.

According to Nueces County Assistant District Attorney Matthew Manning, the three men were charged after being implicated in actions that took place around the time of an inmate's death.

That inmate has been identified as 49-year old David Johnson. He died on Dec. 15, 2018. His cause of death has not been disclosed.

"I cannot release any information until there is an execution of a warrant," a member of the Nueces County Warrants Division told KRIS Communications.

All three jailers are charged with tampering with a government record and official oppression. Zapata is facing an additional charge of invasive visual recording.
