Some people are afraid to celebrate Halloween this year because of Covid-19. But that is not stopping one south side resident from going all out to provide a fun and safe trick-or-treat experience for kids this year.
They decorate their house near Saratoga and Kostoryz every year for holidays and to ensure kids and parents are enjoying the halloween spirit, Pat Martinez and her wife have built a candy chute to safely give trick or treaters their candy.
“Basically we will be able to start a candy drop from about 4 feet up into a tube. And then at the end of the tube is where the kids will put their baskets for the candy,” said Pat Martinez who is a Barcelona Estates resident.
The tube is 6 feet long and took 2 and a half hours to make. Martinez says Halloween is one of her and her wife’s favorite holidays and they have been decorating in this neighborhood for the past four years.
“It’s just a way for us to engage the neighbors, engage the people passing by, and a little bit of its going to be ok,” said Martinez.
Their theme this year is the crazy clown house. Martinez says they are trying to provide some normalcy by celebrating the holidays and bringing the Halloween spirit this year despite Covid-19.
“But there is always a little bit of hope on the other side,” said Martinez.
