CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Early this morning, a teen boy rescued a man from a vehicle on 181 SB near the Harbor Bridge after the driver crashed and was unconscious.
It took place near the bridge about 2 a.m. today.
Edward Johnson Herrera, also known as Teddy, was driving with his mother on the 3700 block of State Highway 181 when they saw the vehicle.
Teddy got off and saw the man unconscious. He pulled him out and minutes later, the vehicle was on fire.
Medics transferred the man to Spohn Shoreline, and the condition of the man is currently unknown.
“His actions saved his fellow man in the face of danger, something that stands directly in line with our values at the Corpus Christi Fire Department,” said fire captain Jeff Durrwachter.
The Fire Department is going through an investigation of the incident to determine if an award is warranted for the young hero.
Local attorney Kyle Hoelscher explains the Good Samaritan law for people involved in rescue incidents. We’ll have much more on this story in our later broadcasts at 5, 6 and 10 p.m.
