CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Lessons have gone viral and teachers in CCISD have ramped up their creativity in their online classrooms. Menger Elementary School teachers have transformed themselves and the classrooms using Bitmoji.

The Bitmoji classroom is a creative platform created by the teachers for the students to see their digital classroom in a more exciting and fun way, rather than just links and plain text.

Third-grade teacher Maria Brenal, and other teachers at Menger, decided to take their bulletin boards to the next level by creating Bitmoji classrooms for students using Canvas.

“This was just kind of a cool way for us to do something and be creative ,” Brenal said.

“The teachers are able to personalize their classrooms and add things like you can dress your avatar how you would dress and so its been a lot of fun to make these,” said Menger Elementary principal Christina Barrera.

With faculty having a lot of fun creating their Bitmoji, third-grader Fritz Limke enjoys the creative visual elements.

“I enjoy looking at the Bitmojis and clicking on things that lead me into other things that aren’t just words they are pictures that make you happier,” he said.

Brenal set up her Bitmoji classroom with links for all of the students' subjects such as art, music, and P.E.

“They’re meeting with me, it has links to math and other things that, I try to make it utilitarian and so that they could you know see it click on it and it is done,” Brenal said.

“The really neat thing is there are several Facebook groups of teachers, not just in Corpus, but throughout the nation, that have created some really cool templates and everybody has been sharing and borrowing,” Barrera said.

Brenal says it is pretty simple to create your own Bitmoji classroom. You can go to YouTube and type in how to create your own Bitmoji, and it takes about 12 minutes to learn.
