Corpus Christi police say a man is facing serious charges after he allegedly crashed into a prisoner transport van.

The crash happened around Lipan and Tancahua Street intersection around 12:15 a.m. Monday.

Police say a prisoner transport van, with one driver and three prisoners, was heading to the Nueces County jail. When the van started to enter the intersection, police say another driver in a vehicle didn't yield to the red light, and slammed into the prisoner transport van.

The crash sent the van on it's side. One of the prisoners in the van was injured from the crash and had to be taken to the hospital.

The driver of the vehicle who hit the van, 54-year-old Joseph Perez, was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the crash.

Perez was arrested and charged with one count of intoxication assault.
