The Gregory-Portland ISD board of trustees announced that they have unanimously accepted the resignation of Superintendent Dr. Paul Clore.
Dr. Clore is said to retire as of December 31, 2020 after 47 years as an educator.
“It’s been my pleasure (to serve),” said Dr. Clore. “When you look at where we were, compared to where we’ve come, it’s really amazing that we have done as much as we have done so far … but we still have more to do.”
The 7-0 vote was called at a special meeting on Monday, April 13.
Before serving G-PISD for 19 years, he was superintendent for George West ISD and Columbus ISD, and before that a central office administrator, principal, and teacher.
“Here in G-PISD, Dr. Clore has a long history of dedication to our students, teachers, and community,” said Board President Victor Hernandez. “He’s developed plans that led to the passing of successful bond elections in 2012 and 2015, and provided support to our School Board during some of the most trying times in our history … including what we are facing right now with COVID-19. Dr. Clore has been a leader to so many, and a strong advocate for schoolchildren not just in our District but across the state. He will be missed, and we are extremely thankful for all he’s done for G-PISD.”
Dr. Clore currently is a member of the superintendent’s cabinet for the Texas Commissioner of Education, Mike Morath.
“There are no words to express how grateful I am to everyone in this school district who has done such a marvelous job for our students during my time here,” said Dr. Clore. “I look forward to continuing the great work we are doing, and I also look forward to supporting those efforts as able in the years to follow. Seeing what we are going through right now (with COVID-19), and how our team has pulled together, I know there is a bright future for our district and its students.”
Among his long list of accolades includes winning Superintendent of the Year in 2004.
