CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — The march primaries aren't too far away, and the political buzz is heating up.
State Senator Royce West of Dallas was at Nueces County Democratic Party headquarters Wednesday to announce he's running for the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican John Cornyn.
West says Corpus Christi and Nueces County will be key battlegrounds in the democratic primary and the general election.
West added he plans to make his way to two more counties before the week is over.
"I have been a senator for 26 years, and of all of the people, I have known how large texas is but there is nothing like running for office and having to go to all the different counties getting to meet people here in Nueces County and make sure you understand exactly how large it is, " West said.
Senator John Cornyn has held his seat since 2002.
