CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — According to a news release from Customs and Border Patrol, a 6-month-old baby is in critical condition at Driscoll Children's Hospital.

U.S. Border Patrol agents said they encountered a child with her father as part of a group of 21 people. The group was apprehended three miles west of Roma Port of Entry Thursday at 1:30 a.m.

Border Patrol agents said the group illegally crossed the Rio Grande into the United States.

Agents transported the father and his daughter together to the Rio Grande Valley Sector's Central Processing Center. At 9:20 a.m. Thursday, medical staff at a processing center assessed that the child needed medical care and needed to be treated at a hospital.

CBP officers transported the father and his daughter together at 9:40 a.m., to Edinburg Regional Children's Hospital in Edinburg, Texas.

Medical authorities then transported the child via medivac helicopter to Driscoll Children's Hospital.

Since there was no more space in the helicopter, CBP officers drove the child's father to the hospital to be with his daughter.

The six-month-old girl continues to receive medical care.
