CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The lights are back on at a popular tourist attraction in downtown Corpus Christi.
The lighting system in the Mirador de Flor has been out since 2018. The Mirador de Flor is a memorial honoring Grammy-winning Tejano superstar Selena Quintanilla-Perez.
A life-sized statue is at the center of the mirador. It includes a sound system that plays Selena's music and provides factoids about the late Corpus Christi native. That system had also been malfunctioning.
In July 2018, Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Department officials said they would be making repairs that month. However, when KRIS 6 News checked up on the memorial in May 2020, the statue was still in the dark.
On Tuesday night, the lights and audio systems were up and running once again. According to the city's visitor's center, more than 30,000 people come from around the world to visit the memorial.
