SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS — Police are investigating after a seven-year-old in Texas shot and killed himself Saturday morning.
San Antonio police were called to a home for a shooting just before 9:30 am.
When they arrived, the child identified as Jeffery Taylor was pronounced dead.
Family members say the seven-year-old got ahold of the gun inside the home where his mother, stepfather and siblings live.
Police say the shooting happened in a bedroom and there were no witnesses.
Chief William McManus, with the San Antonio Police Ddepartment, said, "Tragedy any time, but magnified around the holidays as you might expect."
Reportedly the adults in the family are weapons trained and are unsure why the gun was unsecured.
Police have not said who the gun belongs to.
