CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Sheriff Oscar Rivera announced that the first round of deputies and jailers started their first body cam class.

Body cams are a relatively new technology being adopted by police forces across the nation. The idea is to have video evidence of all police interactions with citizens.

Sheriff Rivera thinks they will improve community and law enforcement relations.

"This offers our personnel potential advantages keeping them safe, provide evidence for trials, and improve community relations and transparency," Rivera posted.

According to Rivera, the officers taking the class will be assigned the first cameras.

The cameras were purchased using forfeiture seized money.
