SINTON, Texas — Incumbent Oscar Rivera has staked a narrow lead over Daniel Lorberau in early balloting for the San Patricio County Sheriff's race.
Rivera is polling 51 percent, compared to 48 percent for Lorberau with 20 of the 69 precincts reporting.
Rivera was appointed to replace veteran sheriff Leroy Moody last March 31 after Moody served for 54 years.
This is the first election in many years without Moody running.
Rivera appears to be in for a tougher race than some might have expected.
