Students at the Island University got a lesson today about the fabric of history.

And it's thanks to an event called "African American Quilts: The story behind the code."

It provides a perspective of African-American history and it tells how slaves used a secret code in their quilting during the days of the Underground Railroad.

Each square of these quilts has hidden messages telling people how to reach freedom.
