CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Del Mar College's East Campus has reopened after closing this afternoon because of a power outage.

Heat and safety concerns forced Del Mar College's East Campus to close at 1:30 p.m.

AEP officials told KRIS 6 News that at around 9:40 a.m., a piece of equipment that connects power lines unexpectedly burned out, causing an outage in the area, but that power had been restored by 1 p.m.

The outage affected the East Campus as well as nearby homes and businesses.

For students unable to make a payment due to the outage, the deadline has been extended to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21.

Administration is also advising students due to take Summer II finals to get in touch with instructors regarding alternate arrangements.
