AAA-Texas released its "AAA-Texas Weekend Gas Watch" report today, reporting the national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.55, which is the same as a week ago today, and 24 cents more than the price per gallon at this same time last year.

The statewide gas price average is $2.22 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel. According to AAA-Texas Weekend Gas Watch, that price is one cent less than as on this day last week and is 25 cents more per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in Odessa are paying the most on average at $2.45.

Gas prices in Corpus Christi are averaging $2.26 per gallon.

The report states drivers in Tyler are paying the least at $2.14 per gallon.

Meanwhile, KRIS 6 News found some of the cheaper gas prices in Portland.

The H-E-B on the 1600 block of Wildcat Drive is selling a gallon of regular unleaded for $2.09 and and the Stripes Valero nearby is selling gas for $2.08.

Chad Delfino, who was visiting the Coastal Bend from Gainesville, Florida, was excited to see the low prices.

"Gas prices (there) are $2.65. This is great for me," Delfino said.

Delfino said the drop in gas prices comes at the perfect time because so many people are traveling out of town or just driving around running errands.
