A man was rescued from the water after taking police on a car chase early Sunday morning.
It began around midnight. Corpus Christi Police tell KRIS 6 News they received a call about a man with a gun attempting to break into a house on the 700 block of Jester Street near Flour Bluff. Officers say that when they arrived at the home, the suspect was already gone. As officers talked to the person who placed the call, they saw the suspect's vehicle pass by, taking officers on a pursuit to the freeway in the Flour Bluff area.
The suspect continued on the access road trying to take the turn-around before getting onto the JFK Causeway going south. He ended up driving his truck into the Laguna Madre where it was halfway submerged. With the help of a boat rescue team, the suspect was taken ashore unharmed and arrested. His truck was also pulled from the water soon after.
For now, CCPD says he is facing charges for evading arrest but more charges could be tacked on after a thorough investigation. Officers also added that the victims on Jester Street were not hurt.
