CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — Park rangers at the Padre Island National Seashore have announced they will be temporarily closing for this weekend.
The move comes as confirmed positive COVID-19 cases skyrocketed in Nueces County and across Texas. The closure is coordinated with the National Park Service along with Nueces County.
Officials said, "The health and safety of our visitors, employees, volunteers, and partners at Padre Island National Seashore is our number one priority."
Beginning at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2020. the park will be closed to all visitors.
A statement issued from the National Park Service states the Malaquite Visitor Center, Malaquite Campground, and Bird Island Basin Campground will remain closed until further notice.
