CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — Some homeowners were without power in the central part of Corpus Christi after a car crashed into a power pole.

The crash happened around 3 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of South Alameda and Ayers Street.

Corpus Christi police officers said they were nearby the scene of the crash, helping a stalled car when they heard a loud crash.

When officers found the crash scene, they saw downed power lines, a stop sign on the ground, and an abandoned car that had damage.

Police said the driver of the car fled the scene before officers arrived.

According to the AEP power outage website, the company hopes to have the power restored to the area around 9 a.m. Thursday.
