CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Police Department has provided the community with an update on the two officers who were hit by a vehicle last night.

According to authorities, Officer Alan McCollum was killed Friday night, Jan. 31, during a traffic stop on State Hwy. 358 and Officer Michael Love is in stable condition at a local hospital recovering.

CCPD Public Information Officer Lt. Michael Pena said three officers were conducting a traffic stop on the westbound Carroll Lane overpass at approximately 9:43 p.m. on the night of the incident when they were hit by another vehicle.

The suspect driving the vehicle was identified by Chief of Police Mike Markle in a news conference Saturday afternoon.

"A vehicle driven by 26-year-old Brandon Portillo struck the marked vehicles that were engaged in the traffic stop, striking Officer Micheal Love and Officer Allen McCollum," said Markle.

Police are actively investigating the incident.
