One-hundred vaccines have been set aside in Nueces County Monday for Kleberg County residents 65-years-old and older, along with people 16-years-old and older with pre-existing health conditions.

This is according to Kleberg County Judge Rudy Madrid, thru an agreement with Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales.

Madrid says he’s doing this because of the volume of calls his office is receiving from county residents, who say there aren’t any vaccines available when they go to Spohn Shoreline Hospital, H-E-B, or any other vaccine provider in the Coastal Bend.

Monday afternoon, Madrid also announced the establishment of a hotline that Kleberg County residents can call to register to get the vaccine. They can call 595-8585.

It’ll be for Phase 2 residents, those 65 and older, then, according to Madrid, law enforcement and first responders.

The judge hopes to eventually have as many as 1,000 vaccines available at the Kleberg County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Richard Kirkpatrick has the cold storage facility necessary to hold the vaccines.
