The Corpus Christi City Council gave the final go-ahead for the canal project on North Beach.
That canal will be part of a North Beach drainage solution, which could also include street elevation and a series of offshore breakwater islands.
The $41.2 million project will now move to the design phase.
The ordinance calls for the canal to be open by 2025.
