CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — If you suffer from severe allergies, you now have another option for getting rid of your symptoms.

New technology called "Trudi" is now being used to treat patients in the Coastal Bend.

Dr. Todd Weiss of Corpus Christi ENT Sinus & Allergy uses an electromagnetic image guiding system to combat allergy-related nasal issues.

"What Trudi is, is it's the way that we brought operating room technology into the office for sinus procedures,” Weiss said.

The tool traces the patient's face and navigates the surgeon precisely to the area that needs to be treated.

"This is for patients that suffer from chronic sinusitis or get frequent sinus headaches or are on multiple medications that have not improved with therapy,” Weiss said.

A procedure that used to take more than an hour in the operating room now only takes 15 to 20 minutes in the clinic setting.

“What the capabilities of Trudi allow us to do, is to know exactly where in the anatomy we are, to treat it more quickly, more precisely and better outcomes,” ENT consultant Kyle Shortsleeve said.

Weiss says this procedure requires local anesthesia and is very well tolerated by patients who are typically able to return back to their daily routine the next day.

“With this increased accuracy and precision, patients seem to feel significantly better,” Weiss said.

Corpus Christi ENT Sinus & Allergy has been using that technology in the Coastal Bend since July.
