CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — One new business in Corpus Christi is already working to raise money for a good cause. Axe Daddy's Throw House has only been open for three months, but on Saturday they teamed up with Nueces Brewing Company for an after-Christmas tournament.

The event, Throws and Ho's, brought together experienced and beginner axe throwers for a double elimination event.

Part of the proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the Purple Door Women's Shelter.

“Well we wanted to give to a women's charity. And especially during this time of year when women are in need and their families are in need of a place to be, a place to go. A place that's safety and sheltering them, anything you can do to contribute to that comfort, that safety level, that structure for them and the kids...that's the most important thing,” said organizer Alicia Carlisle.

Organizers say it's a surprise donation, and the shelter will get the money on Monday.
