CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Southside of Corpus Christi has flourished with several residential areas and commercial properties, including restaurants, shopping centers, and grocery stores.
District 3 Councilman Roland Barrera said residents on the Westside say new developments planned for that area long overdue.
“There has long been a feeling, especially that segment, that we haven’t been addressing or developing issues on the west side," Barrera said. "That we have have just moved farther south.”
Barrera said a new sports complex is coming to the area of South Padre Island Drive and Old Brownsville Road.
He said a Veterans Administration Medical Clinic and new residential areas are also being built in the Westside area. With those developments comes the possibility of a wastewater lift station at S.P.I.D and West Point Road.
“This is going to create more ad valorem, more taxable revenue for the school district who right now has had a difficult time managing their revenues," Barrera said.
West Oso I.S.D superintendent Conrado Garcia said the new developments will help the area tremendously.
“The West Oso community and the Molina community can attract growth, and attract business developments for the future.”
The wastewater lift station will be on next week's city council agenda and would provide service to about 483 acres in the surrounding area if approved.
