CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Mother Teresa Shelter on Sam Rankin Ave will be serving their annual Christmas Dinner Meal from 11a.m. - 1 p.m. Christmas Day.
Eddie Rodriguez has been volunteering at shelter for 11 years and this year, because of the pandemic, he says there will be changes.
"We're getting all of the plates ready here in the kitchen and we are taking them out to the gate. And we are serving the plates to the homeless,” said Eddie Rodriguez who is a volunteer.
Rodriguez said after serving breakfast at 7 a.m. tomorrow. They’ll have to quickly turn around and prepare Christmas meals.
"Dinner that has been put together by some Orange Grove residents and they bring it over here, and it's put together by the volunteers,” said Rodriguez.
Operations supervisor sister Rency Moonjely says the shelter is also in need of some items from the community.
"Anybody can donate we need some, to-go plate. And also you can bring some individual creamer things, and uhm cups,” said Sister Ranch Moonjely.
Rodriguez said the meal isn’t only for those experiencing homelessness. Anyone in need of a meal on Christmas Day is invited to attend. But, for those they serve, they ask you to wear a mask and keep 6 feet apart.
"It has been hard for a lot of people and we understand. Some people just haven't gotten it and can't get it together for Christmas. We are here. We're here to provide for as long as it lasts,” said Rodriguez.

For Christmas Eve meal with the Salvation Army, they will be serving at 11:30 a.m. at 513 Josephine St.
