CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — It's that time of year again; mosquito season. Mosquitoes are not only annoying but they can transmit dangerous diseases like the Zika Virus and West Nile Virus. To combat the biting pests, the City of Corpus Christi's Vector Control will continue to spray in neighborhoods across the city. Late last week, the department officials told KRIS 6 News they found increased mosquito activity in the North Beach area, Calallen, and Flour Bluff. Crews have been spraying those areas.
Tentative Spraying Route Schedule:
- Wednesday, June 10: Routes 21, 23 (Southside)
- Thursday, June 11: Routes 26, 24 (Flour Bluff)
- Friday, June 12: Routes 6,7,14 (Westside) 21 (Southside)
*These schedules are tentative and subject to change due to weather conditions and wind speeds.
The City asks residents to remove standing water and keep their lawns mowed. Both are known to be popular breeding areas for many species of mosquitoes.
The City says to remember the 5 D’s of Defense:
DEET – Use insect repellent containing DEET.
DRESS – Dress in long sleeves and pants when you’re outside.
DAWN, DAYTIME and DUSK – Dawn, Daytime and Dusk are the times of day when mosquitoes are most active. Avoid being outside during these times of day to prevent bites.
DRAIN – Regularly drain standing water, including water that collects in empty cans, tires, buckets, clogged rain gutters and saucers under potted plants. Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water.
DOCTOR – Consult a physician if you feel sick after being bitten.
