How can you get a free turkey this Thanksgiving? Multiple businesses, like Mike Shaw Toyota, are giving away free turkeys this season.

The dealership is spreading Thanksgiving cheer later today by giving away thousands of free turkeys during their annual Turkeys for Troops event.

The men and women who serve in the armed forces sacrifice so much to protect our nation’s freedom.

While no gesture can repay them for all that they do, Mike Shaw Toyota is doing its part to thank the troops, hosting its third annual Turkeys for Troops today.

Active and retired military personnel who would like a turkey need to come to the dealership at 3232 I-69 Access Rd., between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., and present a valid military ID.

They will receive one frozen turkey per household.

Turkeys for Troops started in 2017. That first year, the dealership handed out 2,300 turkeys. It has grown so much since then, giving away 2,800 turkeys last year. This year’s event will be the biggest event yet.

“We are excited about it, and just decided my wife and I have been extremely blessed, and we try to give back to the community in a lot of ways, and it dawned on me. . . .'Mike, where have you been?" Shaw said. "Why haven’t you been supporting veterans in a bigger way? You are a veteran yourself', so it just has kind of grown and grown.”

In addition, Mike Shaw is partnering with the Military Warriors Support Foundation’s “Home 4 Wounded Heroes” program to give away a home to a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and Purple Heart recipient, by sponsoring the hero's three years of Family & Family Mentorship program that comes with being awarded a mortgage-free home.

“My goal is, over the next 10 years, is to give away a whole lot of homes, and I am going to start giving away cars,” said Shaw.

Turkeys for Troops might be at Mike Shaw Toyota, but it is a group effort. The dealership partners with other businesses, and hundreds of volunteers to make this day happen.

NOTE: There is a limit of one turkey per household; military personnel must have a military ID to receive the free turkey. Mike Shaw Toyota is expecting a large turnout and encourages everyone to arrive early to receive one of the free turkeys. For more information, visit MikeShawToyota.com.
