'Men Who Cook' event will be semi-virtual

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — Ronald McDonald House Charities of Corpus Christi says its changing one of its biggest fundraiser events because of the pandemic.

Men Who Cook is a fundraiser event that is about great food served in a festive atmosphere, with a bit of competition mixed in. Some of the Coastal Bend’s best cooks participate in the event and this year it will be semi-virtual.

Michelle Horine who is CEO of Ronald McDonald House of Corpus Christi says, they have had to adapt this years fundraiser event, men who cook, by creating a curbside pick up event this Friday.

Pre-purchased ticket holders will schedule their pick up bag between 5 pm and 7 pm Where the teams have safely packaged their food.

“So we have a really nice varied menu, from brisket, to tenderloin, to Mac n cheese to sloppy Joes, to some great cocktails to some surprise foods as well,” said Michelle Horine CEO of Ronald McDonald House Corpus Christi. “We have 13 teams this year and there are 3 man teams this year cooking for us,” said Horine.

When you buy a ticket it provides all 13 tasting options. Once you pick up the food and enjoy, there are directions on how to vote and which team to donate your money to.

Each team is competing to raise the most money for Ronald Mcdonald House charities of Corpus Christi. Travis Cruger is one of the cooks and also a board member. He says he enjoys the camaraderie, cooking and having a great time.

“The rewarding part is being everywhere that I can be to support this event and to support this house,”said Travis Cruger who is a Board Member and a Cook at the event.

Tickets are on sale through Friday on their website. A live auction and awards presentation will take place at 8 pm Friday on the Ronald McDonald house YouTube channel.
