CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Federal Bureau of Investigation has not released any new information as to why its agents performed two searches in Corpus Christi Tuesday -- one of them at Fulton Construction Company.
When contacted early Thursday morning, FBI officials said they have no updates at this time.
Campaign finance documents obtained by KRIS 6 Investigates reveal that Fulton Construction is among at least three local construction companies to donate to a political action committee that was dedicated to getting Corpus Christi Independent School District's 2016 bond package passed.
Fulton donated $5,000 which was more than the other construction companies. CCISD later awarded a nearly $112 million contract to Fulton to build three new schools.
Philip Skrobarczyk owns Fulton Construction Company, and campaign documents show that he has donated to both candidates who will face off in a runoff election in December for Corpus Christi Mayor.
Campaign documents show that Mayor Joe McComb, who's running for reelection, most recently received a $1,000 donation from Skrobarczyk.
“People give contributions to candidates all the time," McComb said. "That doesn’t mean you’ve got any obligation -- you’ve got any strings attached whatsoever."
Campaign documents also show that McComb's challenger in the runoff, city council member Paulette Guajardo, last received a donation from Skrobarczyk -- also $1,000 -- in March of 2019, before she officially announced her candidacy for mayor.
“Fulton Construction or Philip Skrobarczyk, they have not given me a penny for my mayoral race," Guajardo said. "They have not given me one dime for my mayoral race."
Guajardo said she used Skrobarczyk's final donation to help pay lingering expenses from her race for city council which she won the previous November.
