CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A man has died after a drowning incident at Lake Corpus Christi.

The 49-year-old man died Friday evening.

"Tragic start for Father’s Day," posted San Patricio Sheriff Oscar Rivera. "Our Deputies assisted Lake Corpus Christi State Park officials with an apparent drowning yesterday evening."

According to Rivera, investigators told him that a father and son were swimming to a marker buoy and the father had difficulty swimming back and submerged.

The man's son and a friend were able to bring the father to shore and performed CPR along with a nurse and bystanders until EMS arrived.

EMS transported the victim but he did not survive.

"Our sincere condolences to the family," posted Sheriff Rivera.
