ROBSTOWN, Texas — Ahead of today’s impeachment vote, we're hearing how people in the Coastal Bend feel about the current political climate.

With just more than a week left in President Trump's term, we’re speaking to people locally about the events that have occurred in the past week.and what is expected to happen later today in Washington.

In a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Tuesday night, Vice President Mike Pence said he would not invoke the 25th Amendment and remove President Trump from office, writing that it would not be in the best interest of the nation.

But some say they disagree with that.

“Well I'm praying that they get him out of there as soon as possible because I feel he's a brilliant businessman however he's not fit to run our country because he does not know enough of our country's history to run,” said local resident Jenna Bryce. “I feel he’s abused his power and tried to run our country like a Third World country, however he's not even intelligent enough to do that.”

President Trump made his first public appearance since last week's violence when he visited the border wall in Alamo, Texas, on Tuesday.

During that visit, the president denied he was responsible for what happened at the capital, saying his speech at a rally beforehand was "totally appropriate."
