A man is fighting for his life after being the victim of what police are calling a random stabbing at a bus stop at the corner of McArdle Road and Lansdown Drive.
Corpus Christi Police Department Lt. Nicholas Kless said at about 1:20 p.m. officers found a man with life-threatening injuries in the 5000 block of McArdle.
Kless said witnesses told police the the victim, who is believed to be in his 20s, had his neck cut by a man he didn't seem to know. The suspect reportedly had left the scene on foot.
"Random," he said. "Completely random. Like, they didn’t know each other – that’s what we’re getting (from witnesses). Completely random. The suspect ingested some drugs that wacked out his brain and . . . randomly walked up to some people and sliced one person’s neck."
The suspect, who allegedly was under the influence of drugs at the time of the attack, was found with the weapon still in his possession and arrested.
"He seemed to understand what was going on, and why it happened, but at the same time, he did ingest some LSD," Kless said.
Kless said the victim's injuries are life-threatening.
"I went straight to where the suspect was," he said. "By the time I got here, they had loaded (the victim) up on the ambulance already and took off. That’s how quick they took off. Usually, that’s a sign of serious – how serious the injuries are."
The alleged assailant could face charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, at minimum.
"Ongoing investigation," he said. "But . . . suspect's in custody, everything's wrapped up, there's no missing parts."
