CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Call it a Nightmare on Stirman Street. Or in this case, just another year for one local family.
Wendy Beehner and her family have been putting their Halloween spirit on full display at their home for the past 17 years. So needless to say, they've had plenty of practice when it comes to serving up scares.
"It takes a lot of work." Wendy said. "I have two grown kids that come over here and they help us because it takes such a long time."
The Beehner home has several spooky themes that all come together on their front lawn.
A frightening farm with grinning jack-o-lanterns and a scary scarecrow, a cemetery with the undead trying to escape from their graves, a couple of gargoyles and a dragon sitting on the perch of a haunted castle and a creepy playground with several dolls sitting on a seesaw and riding on a moving swing. And their hard work definitely doesn't go unnoticed.
Wendy says when they first moved to their home, they gave away candy to about 50 trick-or-treaters on their first Halloween.
That number has since grown to more than 355 with the help of their haunted display.
"This is amazing. I love it," Wendy said. "I love how they react to it. I love the fact that they come to our home to see it. And the work pays off on itself. It just really does."
The Beehner family is also taking some COVID-19 precautions this year. Wendy says her family will wear gloves while passing out candy, and hand sanitizer will be placed at the entrance of their walkway before trick-or-treaters reach their front door.
"I just wanna make sure that people can still come out, still have fun, and still have their children have a great experience and a great time trick-or-treating," she said.
