The Rockport Art Festival turns 50 this year

The Rockport Art Festival is turning 50 this year! Since 1969, the Rockport Art Festival has been the place to be in July.

The event, hosted by the Rockport Center for the Arts (106 S. Austin Street), typically draws more than 10,000 people each year and features the work of more than 120 artists and craftsmen from here in Texas, as well as from across the nation.

As those who have attended the festival in the past will tell you, it is the quality of paintings, ceramics, jewelry, woodwork, glasswork, metal sculptures and furniture that you find at this event which has made it one of the most prestigious and fun art shows in the southern U.S.

In addition to plenty of food and drink offerings, entertainment will be provided by various artists inside a giant air-conditioned tent. A children’s activity tent offers youngsters the opportunity to create some of their own art work. In addition, numerous art galleries in Rockport will be open during the weekend.

The Rockport Art Festival will be held at the Fairgrounds adjacent to Rockport Harbor (on Navigation Circle) on Saturday, July 6th from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and again on Sunday, July 7th from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Children 12 and under get in free. 2-Day VIP Passes are $15 each. The VIP package includes exclusive early festival access starting at 9:30 Saturday. Saturday one-day passes are $10 for adults (13 & up) and can be purchased on-site only, no pre-sale. Sunday one-day passes are $8 for adults (13 & up)and can be purchased on-site only, no pre-sale.

LOCAL ART: "emotion face" opens this weekend at K Space art space

The public is invited to K Space Contemporary Art Space for a brand new exhibit by local artist Loring Baker.

The exhibit officially opened Friday at Artwalk, but you will be able to see it until July 26.

Loring Baker captures emotion on canvas with vibrant colors and deep textures.

“It seems that we as human beings exist in the space between internal infinity and external infinity,"Baker says,"If so, then our bodies are the actual line between the two. If we are the line, the mark, the one moment between the two, I aim to make drawings that are of that line, that speak of the in between. The place where this odd human experience exists.“
