Twenty-one emergency response groups in the Coastal Bend were awarded a total of $78,000 in grants this morning.
It was part of Flint Hills Resources "Helping Heroes" program.
This plan provides supplemental funding to fire departments and emergency service groups in the district.
For smaller groups like Ingleside on the Bay Volunteer Fire Department, it means the chance to replace outdated safety equipment.
“Our budget for our department is small and we still have needs for our personnel and our equipment,” said JoAnn Ehmann of the Ingleside on the Bay VFD. “So this money really helps.”
The “Helping Heroes" program has awarded more than $1 million to local emergency service departments over the past seven years.
