What is/was your profession. Are you now retired?

I am a Medical Doctor and my specialty is Family Medicine. I had retired. I had recently returned to practice but resigned to run for Congress.

What relevant experience can you bring to office?

My life experiences are as follows. I am an immigrant. I was a farm worker. I am a product of public schools. I am a United States Air Force veteran. I was a business owner. I am a Medical Doctor. I am a former Medical Doctor for the Veteran's Administration.

How have your life experiences prepared you for this position?

As you can see by the previous answer. Many of the current problems that our nation is dealing with I have a personal experience at some point of my life. My personal experience with current problems of immigration, public schools, veterans affairs, Medicare and other national health concerns gives me a unique insight into possible solutions for these concerns. I also grew up and still have family in Mc Allen which provides me some insight into the border wall issues.

Which problems would you address on your first day in office?

I would ensure that all that participated in the planning and execution of the January 6, insurrection are held accountable. That includes the former President, current Senators and any House Representative that are proved to be involved. Our nation is based on laws and holding them accountable would demonstrate to the nation and the world that in a democracy no individual is above the law.

What do you see as long term issues which need to be addressed throughout your time in office?

I believe national unity is essential to the success of our nation. When elected, politicians should not be Republican or Democrat they should be American. Elected leaders take an oath to protect the Constitution and I feel some of the current elected officials have failed to maintain the oath they took and should no longer serve in our government.

What is local government doing well right now that needs to be expanded further?

I believe the most important thing that is being done by our local government is working together to benefit our community. What I would hope to bring would be all the federal government support available with no strings attached for the improvement of all communities in District 27.

Answers to KRIS 6 News questionnaires were written by the candidates in their own words and received little-to-no editing from KRIS 6 News employees.
