PORTLAND, Texas — Have you gotten your pumpkin for Halloween yet?

The First United Methodist Church in Portland has thousands of pumpkins they're hoping to sell this year.

Every year the church uses the funds to help Native Americans in New Mexico, which is where the pumpkins come from.

Members of the church also use the money to build a brand-new home every year for a family in need in the Rio Grande Valley.

"We know that the valley was devastated by a hurricane this past year," coordinator Gail McCleese said. "So, we know there are lots of people down there that are living in substandard conditions and this gives them the opportunity for home ownership in a position where they might not have had it before."

The pumpkin patch is open now through Halloween.

The patch is open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m Sunday through Friday.

On Saturdays, it is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

First United Methodist Church is located at 4545 Wildcat Drive in Portland.
