CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Je'Sani Smith Foundation was out on beach today warning beachgoers about the dangers of rip currents.

The foundation was created after Je'Sani Smith, a senior at King High School at the time, drowned in 2019 after he got caught in a rip current near Bob Hall Pier.

“From that point on, I felt like it was a moral responsibility and duty to raise awareness about the hazards below our waters,” said Kiwana Denson, founder of the the Je’Sani Smith Foundation.

The goal of the foundation is to educate people on rip currents.

The foundation aims at saving lives and usually goes out on the beaches during holidays when a larger crowd is seen there.
