INGLESIDE, Texas — The Ingleside Animal Shelter is reminding you to thank a veteran with an offer of free pets as the holiday approaches on Wednesday.

Adoption fees are being waived during the month of November, in honor of Veterans Day.

The shelter held a similar event last year for veterans only.

This year, they've expanded it to everyone.

Shelter officials say it’s just another way to thank the men and woman who have served our country.

"There's a lot of veterans in the area,” Ingleside animal control officer Kim Otwell said. “We've got some veterans with the police department that work with the city. We’ve actually got a lot of veterans, citizens in the area."

This campaign is done to thank all veterans for their service, she said.

“So thank a veteran or even an active duty military personnel, we're mainly doing it for appreciation for them,” Otwell said.

The adoption fees will be waived throughout November.

The only cost will be the microchipping, which is $15.

The shelter is open to the public on Saturdays, but visits can be arranged by appointments.

They'll even work around your schedule if you can't make it out during office hours.
