CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Veterans Band of Corpus Christi provided a musical backdrop, as dozens of people gathered at Seaside Funeral Home this morning to honor local civil rights leader Dr. Hector P. Garcia.
The memorial service was organized by the American G-I Forum, a group founded by Garcia.
His daughter, Cecilia Garcia Akers, spoke about the life and accomplishments of both her father and her mother.
Today's gravesite ceremony celebrated Dr. Garcia's 106th birthday.
