CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A fundraiser was held Sunday to help a local woman battling breast cancer. Stephanie Sasser has Stage IV metastatic breast cancer. Though she's fighting for her own life, she's also participating in this year's Making Strides for Breast Cancer walk next weekend.
KRIS 6 News first spoke with Sasser during a kickoff breakfast for the big American Cancer Society fundraiser in August. Stephanie is currently battling Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, which means her cancer is not only in her breast, but it's also spread to several parts in her body. She's the mom of a 4-year-old little boy named Knox, and she is making strides against breast cancer because, even as she battles cancer, she wants to help others.
The barbecue fundraiser is happening at the South Texas Icehouse at 6601 Everhart Rd. The money raised will be used to help her pay her medical expenses and to donate to the researchers who are investigating the final stage of breast cancer.
"Thank you everybody. I can't appreciate it more than words. Y'all are not only doing this for me, y'all are doing this for my son, so that way he can have me around a lot longer than the two to three years that the doctors gave me," said Sasser.
Enjoy a brisket plate for $10 and live music. The fundraiser ends at 8 p.m.
